Pre-production- Finalised Character Profiles

Here are the finished character profiles, which we will be distributing out to the actors, with the script and production schedule once we have finished it.
Hunter Phoenix- James W. Leatherbarrow
Hunter Phoenix is an English writer from Hanger Lane, London. He is 29, tall, brown haired, bearded, and wears glasses. He moved to New York in April, 1950 after becoming interested in the case of Esmeé Amé-Libre. He is relatively well known in London, but unheard of in New York. He is a fairly guarded character, and he shows a general indifference to emotional and sexual relationships. He often dresses in typically British attire- tweed jackets, loosely worn cravat, braces, brogues and always button up shirts. He is Oxford educated, and has a degree in Philosophy.
Detective John Reilly- Paul Kime
Detective John Reilly is a fifty year old detective, born and bred in the Bronx, New York. He is of average height and build, with brown, greying hair. He rose to the rank of detective at the age of 38, and is from a relatively poor, working class background. He now deals with the most notorious cases in the city. He is well respected amongst colleagues and the public, and is known for getting fast results. He is married, with two daughters.
Esmeé Amé-Libre- Hope L. Cunningham-Murphy
Esmeé Amé-Libre is a beautiful 27 year old that has become infamous for the murder of Jack Manning, the Mayor of New York. She has blonde hair, and is of average height. She suffered years of mental and physical abuse at the hands of Manning, blackmailed and coerced into a secret affair. She escaped on the scene of the murder, unintentionally leaving the black maid, Angela Watson to be framed. She is still on the run, but until the arrival of Phoenix, she is in relatively little danger of being caught.
Jack Manning
Jack Manning was the most popular and beloved Mayor New York had ever had. After his murder, there was a memorial built in his honour. He was loved in the public eye, but in his private life he was a narcissistic, obsessive, sexually violent and manipulative ego maniac. He led a double life. He had a perfectly normal, wholesome marriage with his doting, and loyal wife Cherie, and a gritty, seedy, sadistic world of intimidation with Esmeé.  He is not in the opening
Angela Watson
Angela Watson is the black maid who worked for Jack Manning. She was framed by the corrupt police force, led by Donovan and Reilly, who failed to catch the real Esmeé, who ignored evidence of witnesses in order to get results. They used the anger and outrage at Manning’s death, and racial hatred to frame the maid. Watson had no family, as they had all either died fighting in WW2, or had died previously. She moved to New York from Birmingham, Alabama , and had only been working for Manning for 3 weeks when the murder was committed. Only her picture is in the opening
Jessica Reilly
Daughter of the corrupt detective John Reilly, Jessica knows the truth- of Angela’s real identity, after doing some detective work herself in her father’s files. She is 21, brunette, beautiful, mysterious and intelligent. She becomes the film’s femme fatale; intrigued by Phoenix, she is conflicted between the truth and loyalty to her father. She therefore feeds Phoenix cryptic clues and gives him enough information to work out the case for himself. There is no reference to her in the opening scene.
Cherie Manning
Wife of Mayor Jack Manning- she moved out of New York out after the murder. She had no idea about Esmeé, as she was away, as a public figurehead in the lifting of the Berlin Blockade in Berlin, in May 1949. She had been away for a month, and so never saw Angela Watson. The knowledge of his affair drove her to near madness, and she now lives in Paris. There is no reference to her in the opening scene
Detective Dwight Donovan
Detective Dwight Donovan is a 55 year old detective, who was transferred to New York specifically for the Amé-Libre case, from Detroit, Michigan. Having been a senior detective in Detroit for almost twenty years, Donovan is regarded as one of the top investigators in the US. He is not married, and has no children. He is slightly taller than Reilly, and is fat. He is severely bald. There is no reference to him in the opening scene
